The $3,200 Mistake That Made Me Rethink Commercial LED Grow Light Specs

In my first year handling procurement for a mid-sized commercial greenhouse operation—back in 2018—I made a classic newbie error. The Silver Bullet That Isn't: Verified Specs

I'm not saying you shouldn't buy lights with a tolerance spec. Every manufacturer has one. I'm saying you need to verify the actual output of your specific batch before you install all 500 units.

What I do now, and what I've standardized across our team's checklist:

  1. Pre-Order: Request a sample unit from the actual production batch if possible. Test it for wattage, PPFD, and thermal performance.
